Closures

Fortis BC Construction – 2024

The Exterminator Loop – Full Closure due to access trail closed

Trail closures from the Fortis BC Eagle Mountain Woodfibre Gas Pipeline Project will be affecting the Eagle Mountain moto trail system.  All trails directly linked to the compressor station are closed and there will be a new powerline built from the sub-station up to the plant, terminating just by the entrance to Sidewinder:

As a result of this work, Sidewinder (our access trail) is closed until at least January 2025.

This makes the dirt bike trail system inaccessible until the closures are finished.

Please do not attempt to enter the trail system from the BC Hydro power line road.  Rec Sites and Trails BC has indicated they do not want bikes entering from the road for safety reasons.

Latest Update:  Sept 8th, 2024:

Beginning mid-September, crews will begin clearing activities and site set up for the new electric substation and powerline portion of the Project near Eagle Mountain Park. In the interest of safety, we may require intermittent closures of Eagle Mountain Drive and our Compressor Station access road. We will implement advance notice signboards as early as feasible before implementing the closures. As a reminder, please see attached trail closure map.

March 13th, 2024:

May be an image of text that says "FOR CONSTRUCTION CLOSED NO PUBLIC ACCESS"

Sidewinder has now been closed for the Fortis construction.

Fortis says “Trail access along the west side of our compressor station is already closed as crews prepare for tree clearing and rock blasting taking place throughout March.” So they obviously do not want anyone in there while that is taking place. They have pledged to open the trails as soon as possible but have yet to provide any solid timeline to when that will be (2 months? 2 years?). Parking will also be restricted at the parking area as early as May 1 (possibly also for the remainder of the project until 2026). There is going to be alternate parking at Eagle Mountain Park with flaggers directing people down to the Hydro ROW to get to the trails that way. Whether or not that will be a viable access for us is TBD, we are working on it. But for the meantime please do not expect to be able to access the trails via sidewinder and expect there to be no parking soon either! Obviously, don’t try and bust your way in there while there is active blasting/falling going on. There is no access to sidewinder or anywhere near the compressor station / any of the trails or roads that link directly to it.

Permanent Closure

  • Bloodline

Bloodline has been identified by RSTBC as a fall line trail and is not sustainable.  It also ends on the BC Hydro road which is going to be closed to all motorcycle traffic.  At RSTBC’s request, Bloodline has been closed permanently to moto traffic.

  • Lower Decapitator (a.k.a. Mahogany Canoe)

This trail is closed permanently to motorized traffic by RST-BC, due to numerous environmental concerns that are infeasible for any of the use groups to mitigate.

  • Inner Limits

Trail closed permanently by RST-BC, due to numerous environmental concerns
